Cassava milling is not a new concept but very few people have ventured into the sector in Kenya. However, it is a very promising source of income and the market is full of untapped opportunities. The overall partnership ambition is to develop and provide fortified and affordable cassava and whole maize blended flour to a targeted 25,000 Base of Pyramid (BoP) consumers in urban and peri-urban areas. This new product will serve as an additional revenue stream and is anticipated to increase the volumes of cassava sourced from smallholder farmers as raw material. It will also provide access by BoP consumers to affordable nutritious food products.
