In Burkina Faso, maize is a cereal that is widely consumed by all sections of the population and frequently use as base for animal feed. Unfortunately, the sector presents several difficulties: there is low productivity, processing of maize is still in a very early stage, there are weak connection between actors.
Based in the industrial zone of the capital Ouagadougou, AGROSERV is one of those few Burkinabe companies that processes maize at a certain scale, their factory has a daily processing capacity of 80 tonnes. However, it currently collects less than 14,000 tonnes per year (less than 40 tonnes a day). Given the vast size of the potential market for human consumption and animal feed, AgroServ has the ambition to process more than 72,000 tons of maize by 2023 from 30,000 smallholder farmers. It also wants to diversify its product offering with enriched flour, snacks and precooked nutritious flour, reaching to more than 25,000 BoP consumers (BoP).
