Soybeans − ACOF and Novos Horizontes − Mozambique

About the partnership

ACOF is a women-headed soya processing firm; Novos Horizontes is a leading poultry feed manufacturer. The partnership aims to support smallholder soybean producers with better access to information and services and supply contracts with ACOF; which in turn aims to supply Novos Horizontes with soybeans and other crops for animal feed.

Achievements

Strengthen agents and train lead farmers to provide (marketing) services to producers

Develop management systems to increase efficiency of outgrower schemes (field activities, contracts, payments etc)

Promote use of quality poultry feed

Strengthen networks for soybean production, aggregation and processing

Broker linkages between soya farmers and microfinance providers, support microfinance agencies to develop services for soybean industry

Introduce crop insurance schemes

Targets:

Involve 20,000 smallholder farmers (6,000 women) and 10 small and medium enterprises (3 women-led) by 2017.

Market Segments:

Soybean for commercial poultry feed industry, soya-based food products for BoP market.
