About the partnership

Local soy-based food products, such as soy-kebabs and soy-milk, are more and more appreciated by consumers. Soybean production in Ghana is characterized by inefficiencies related to the organization of farmer cooperatives, production practices and post-harvest issues. The partnership with 2SCALE will help bridge the gap between supply and demand of soybeans to improve income of farmers. The BoP market in this partnership also plays a significant role.

Achievements

Improve access and use of inoculant, inputs and equipment for SHFs

Set up a Spraying Service Provider scheme (partnership CropLife)

In consultation with ATT, promote labor saving equipment and technology (addressing concerns of women producers in particular).

Facilitate access to finance for cluster actors and processing firms

Facilitate contract negotiation, signing and monitor contracts between farmers and processing firms

Develop and implement a marketing strategy to serve BoP consumers with soy-based food products

Targets:

The targeted volumes by the producer organizations equals 10,000 tons/ year of soybeans by 2017. Involve 18,500 smallholder farmers (7,500 women) and 75 small and medium enterprises (25 female-headed).

Market Segments:

Soy-based animal feed; soy-oil for the paint industry; soy-kebabs and milk for street vendors.
