For this first edition, 173 applications were received from which 124 eligible. 72% of the applicants have their headquarters in Kenya, Nigeria or Ghana. There were also applications from Ethiopia, Mali, Niger, Burkina Faso and Ivory Coast. Most of the applications were in the focus areas of value chain integration, financial inclusion and sustainable farming.. Most of the applicants have a digital innovation that impacts multiple 2SCALE sectors, however staple crops and fresh produce are the main sectors that could be impacted by these innovations.
What’s next?
In January 2020, the implementation phase will begin, during which the selected applications will be associated with 2SCALE partnerships. And it is envisioned to start soon after the implementation of innovations on the ground, giving the applicants one of a kind opportunity to scale their digital innovation among the 750,000 farmers and in the agribusiness partnerships which are part of the 2SCALE program.
