Brassivoire is a joint venture between Heineken and CFAO, that invests in a new brewery in Abidjan with the ambition to compete with Solibra, a monopolistic brewery. Brassvoire intends to source most inputs locally. It opted for fine broken rice as a source of sugar; when processing paddy into white rice, 5 to 7% of the initial paddy volume becomes fine broken rice, a by-product improper to human consumption. Brassivoire’s objective is to have a positive social impact in local communities, while at the same time purchasing fine broken rice that responds to its quality requirements and is competitive.
