The partnership aims to strengthen and further diversify the vegetable sector, by improving farmers’ access to quality seeds and by strengthening marketing and distribution channels to consumer markets, including BoP. Processor/retailer AACE Foods, a key partner, aims to significantly expand sourcing of vegetables from 2SCALE clusters to produce dried peppers and other products.

Achievements

Strengthen the dried chili pepper supply chain driven by AACE Foods (quality management, contracting, post-harvest management etc)

Broker business relationships between clusters and new buyers

Provide technical assistance to farmers to increase production and quality, year-round; also strengthen farmer organizations

Facilitate registration of new varieties, set up a seed distribution network (East West Seed)

Improve farmers’ access to credit (with support from AACE Foods

Targets:

Involve 21,000 smallholder farmers (7,500 women) and 25 small and medium enterprises (9 women-led).

Market Segments:

Fresh vegetables for local and national open markets, restaurants and supermarkets. Dry hot pepper and dry ginger processed by AACE Foods for supermarkets, hotels and restaurants.
